Freie Universität Berlin European Studies Program (FU-BEST) is a semester program of Freie Universität Berlin for incoming international students offered in Fall (late August through mid-December) and Spring (February through mid-May).

It features a combination of university-standard German language instruction from Beginner to Advanced levels and a large menu of subject courses (primarily in the humanities and social sciences) taught mainly in English; for the successful completion of the program, participants receive ECTS credits.

There is no German language prerequisite for participation in the program, but all participants enroll in on-site in German language training at their particular level.

The subject courses cover topics from a variety of disciplines, ranging from political science, history, philosophy, and sociology to music history, architecture, film studies, marketing/management, environmental studies, and art history.

Each semester features a week-long off-site excursion as well as local field trips and cultural events, providing students with rich cultural and academic experiences.

In addition, an 8-week internship option, which offers academic credit, is available every year from May through July.
